Shane Cassidy has been confirmed as the new coach for Lions Prems.
We had a great night tonight at training and its good to get things set for the season.

Shane comes with a lot of experience and his values made him the perfect match for the club

We want to thank all the applicants who approached us and all the coaches in Cant and beyond we approached for your time and assistance.

I heard through the grapevine that Shane Cassidy was coaching for Aranui Eagles, can anybody confirm this as if this was true Murray W I think you might want to question his values before praising them.

Hi 2 cents Shane did apply for Aranui Prem but was turned down, he considered doing there Reserve grade, but really wanted to coach a Prem team.

In all our dealings with Shane he wanted to do the right thing by Aranui and I believe he meet face to face with them and explained situation. He was wished good luck and left on good terms.

My understanding is Aranui has plenty of coaches this year and several guys who put there name forward missed out

well im not related at all my 2 cents worth. but......................

looks like a coach was at one place/club and now he or she thinks the grass is greener or the colour of money is and has jumped ship!

or is there another personal reason??? who will know

Update on Shane Cassidy

Really happy as club to have Shane on board and the players are responding to his coaching style, very confident experienced coach.

Why don't we just can the preseason comp and have three great rounds of League 21 weeks plus finals

My2cents the mail i have is that mr cassidy had agreed to coach the eagles prems Bs side and had even collected all the contact details from last years manager etc.
Some good coaches were turned down for this position and left obviously very disappointed only to find out that mr cassidy had changed his mind.
$$$$$ rumour has it $5k and 3 trips to raro again just a rumour tho.
Values!! the bloke Texted his new intentions and only fronted when summoned by executive, unbelieveable.

Murray w i would have 2 agree with you that his values does make him a perfect match for your club (your words).

Good riddens i say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the good coach came down to see if there was a place with Lions and we would be pleased to have him.

Problems related to executive partner getting the top job and a few people pushed aside.

Petty coat power

Good riddance fits a lot of situations

Hows the rugby going in Auz

Petty Coat power......? Clutching at straws now M.W

M.W - Talking about the coaches who are not on this forum i think.?

Now I dont understand why it was a problem for shane cassidy not getting the top job at the Eagles.?

So the facts to date are in this forum.

Shane went to the eagles and accepted the B's Position?

he left the eagles and went to cele Prems?

he didnt front up to the executive of the eagles committe until asked to by the exect.

He said he used to coach in Taranaki. As we all know its a small world, Watching the touch nationals at the moment in Auckland and Taranaki touch boys saying there was 1 shane cassidy in taranaki who did coach the Local High School "GIRLS TEAM" and there was only 4 in the comp.?

Just thinking how good a coach do you have to be with a 4 team competition.

HHmmmmmmm...... awaiting with anticipation

Murray W yeah rugby and league is goin good over here thanks for asking. I see you are still surrounding yourself and your club with controversy, some things never change.

The person who won the top job was the best person for the job and has come through the club, actually held a coaching position with our Bs last year. You see at the Eagles we have pathways and unlike you we develop our own players and coaches.
Q. How many prem coaches have come thru your coaching structures Murray?

A few people pushed aside NO they were just unsuccessful in going for this position.

As for your swipe about "executive partner" you couldn't be further from the truth as we have processes that the club follows and the full committee appoints our coaching positions after interviews.
Unlike your club we have many people who have a say in the way the EAGLES are run and not just TWO family members or a couple of people. Maybe your problem lies there.

What does the W stand for?

Good luck to all teams in 2010. Go the EAGLES!!!!!!!

If what i have read in this forum is correct it is not a very good start to the year for celebration, buying coaches now that had already made a commitment to another club??

Good luck to Aranui you will be better off without the likes of Shane Cassidy.

Celebration will never have the respect from any other club in CHCH or be taken seriously for that matter,
if they continue to "do business" the way they are.

Maybe Celebration should consider a name change as i dont think they will have much to celebrate this seaon either.

Just to set the record straight. Shanes name and number was supplied by an Aranui insider i believe. He was about to go back up north because his partner couldnt find work. He did apply for the Premier job at aranui. Was unsuccessful and then was offered reserve grade position. I believe he wasnt wanting to put anyone out at Aranui but had a Premier coaching opportunity and a job offer for His partner through the Celebration business network. This is actually why he is coaching at Celebration this year as their premier coach. The only other alternative would be for him to move back up north. I think this is his first time coaching in Canterbury and hope he does well. I think Aranui have their incumberant Reserve grade coach from last few seasons and they have done extremely well under his leadership. So i dont believe the A-town boys have really lost too much overall.

Maybe just pride dented a little and upset that thy lost a potential coach to Celebration. I think A-Town are looking ok from what ive seen so far though their trials.

To be completely honest we hate losing coaches and players to rival clubs too but it happens..

There are some very good coaches across the board coaching prem sides in Canterbury this year.... and Hoons is coaching A-Town from (Aussie) thats pretty amazing too.. lol (dont get upset im jokin of course !! just adding a bit of humour) Hoons was a good coach shame hes not here anymore was always entertainin footy with his teams.

Bring on the pre-season comp and lets getta look at the teams this year is all im gonna say. Its gonna be interesting comp all round.

Hey what's up Lion Man!!!!

Lol I kind of had a giggle reading about about how Shane Cassidy was considering moving back up North due to his partner not having any work then miraculously as only God would have it a job appeared available within the Celebration camp oops I meant Celebration Business Network.
I'm left wondering if perhaps it was a Aranui insider as you put it,sending Shane down your golden path or that indeed one of your insiders heard of the job hunting and conveniently knew of one open.

At the end of the day no matter how much Celebration sugar coat their actions it will only ever be a business transaction hence why they will never truely succeed in this sport.

Yeah money talks but at the end of the day is that enough to buy someones LOYALTY it seems even as you put it Aranui's pride may be dented but at least the core of this Club is loyal to their fellow members and that my friend you can't BUY!!!!

I'm sorry to say this, but this post has just turned to junk. I don't know Shane and I don't know the circumstances to which he left Aranui, but please leave the guy alone, It seems as though he wanted to coach at a high level accepted a position and then in his opinion something better came up.

If you were looking for work and got offered a job and then a little later a better job (in your opinion) came up you would surely take it?

We don't know the guy and the circumstances he faces. Good luck to him. To me this seems to be more of a club v club battle. Let it go people.

hmmmm does leave me to think how it can be dented, talking bout the pride bit of course, maybe selection committee? but to have it dented you must have the pride in which is being questioned. and shane cassidy was'nt a point of pride at the eagles.

Seeing people in the community come down to hampshire is something to be proud of,without any sugar to coat what is on offer.

Cele its impossible the variables in league change all the time but what is constant and favourable is Pride.

IMO snickering is in the pudding can't wait to see cele post a perfect season ie unbeaten resources, coach and a roster from hell mate there is no doubt in my mind, business wise, the forecast is f**king beautiful for Celebration Prems League is still NOT a business though,so my business minded opinion is kefe.

Good Luck all teams

I say big ups to the guy! He's just signed over to the dark side. The only cult in NZ with a Rugby League team

He may have an ok roster to choose from but at the end of the day they are just a bunch of proven un-achievers. Every season some jerk from their administration or support staff gets on here and has his rant or mid-week sermon, gets "verbally attacked" and his team cant back it up as they always produce a piss poor effort on the footy field. Who cares if he has left the Eagles for this organisation. He wont last in the end, it's a proven fact . Where is Jiggsy, Cully, Low, Te Hae, Endacott and the others?

The day the Lions win the premiership is the day that one of the Watkinson boys suits up and runs it straight at Mike Glover with Sonny Bill Williams in support

Cheers Mokopuna...

You will find that 90% of the negative comments on here about Celebration Lions are from Keas supporters...

Thats their prerogative of course, as this is only a forum, however is does get a tad repetitive.

Take no notice of Crackerjack... he is only new on here, but by his comments he is obviously someone who needs a box of tissues, a lot of hand-holding and a cuddle...

We are use to the ranting, raving and tirades from the others on here.. it certainly adds spice to the off-field commentaries, and as long as no-one takes it too far (aye Dr), its an amusing aside.

Embassy,

I wonder why that would be, do you ever wonder about such things?

Don't feel to hard done by, and I would think its more like 99%.

Its a shame, because you guys do so much good in league, but why do you want to buy a premiership so bad as to upset your neighbours and the rest of the league community.....

Winning a premiership is a proud thing for the community you are from. Will your community as you say (East), be proud Embassy?

? Maybe it is because most of these threads are created by the Celebration church/centre/club. I wouldn't go pointing the finger at the Keas so quickly Embassy/Martin/Corey/Kelly?Murray or whoever you are??? 90% of negative comments coming from the Keas? It looks as though their is an overwhelming support from other clubs here in Canty for comments that have been made in regards to the administration (just stating the obvious). There is even a thread that has been created to avoid "celebration talk." I think that says alot.

I would have to disagree with you there Embassy or whoever you are. I have seen many posts on here from other non-Keas club people commenting about the Lions administration. So save everyone the sympathy spiel! Doc will let loose and say whatever he wants so don't try and say that his opinion on anything and everything is that of the Linwood Keas club.

Nah...
You got it all wrong
I dont need, or want your sympathy!

I didnt say about Doc that "his opinion on anything and everything is that of the Linwood Keas club", i was saying he had a lot of information about OUR club, not yours...
Anyway...
Meh... wateva... enough talking about that stuff, I would rather focus on the players...

I know Doc will say whateva he wants - never doubted that for a minute, and he is big, ugly and old enough to speak for himself, which he probably will... very soon, no doubt...

Thats what makes this forum the most visited national league forum in NZ...

The other clubs cant get enough of the passion we have down here...

How do we delete this TOPIC and get back to the Premiership...?

Just to put it straight you guys you poached a coach who had already had a coaching placement you guys approached plenty of other coaches IE VINCENT, PERKINS even Roddy Walker from Aranui just to name a few offered numerous amounts of money and trips they all turned ya down have you ever wondered why. Yes i will say what i feel on this forum it is my right and in no way it is the LiNWOOD KEAS club point of view just mine. Have you ever thought that i might be getting this info that i have on here from a pissed of Cele member just remember loose lips sinks ships.

Look Cele have done great thinks for kids league but they have done bad things at the Senior level

I am not a cele hater just disagree with a lot a things they do

I even offered to loan COREY Cele 2 13yrs player a week if CRL would wear it to try and get another team in the grade but Corey didnt come back to me does that sound like a hater no it sounds like a league lover

Cheers Doc...

Haha...

thanks for the clarification...

To be honest, i dont know anything about the poaching of coaches... you might have to speak one on one with coach Cassidy about that cos "loose lips might sink ships" but its better to get the information "straight from the horse mouth..."

I wont get all gooey and mushy over it, but whenever a member of Cele and the Keas can have a korero without any verbal abuse or worse, its got to be good for our game...

I know the players all have a healthy respect for each other, and alot of them are good mates/cousins/even brothers...

I also know everyone on here are league lovers... so I will sign off by saying "Lets talk LEAGUE...!

Good luck to all the teams in round 3
