ok just an update on whats happening at sydenham this year...

first off, mike lynch is gone and the newly appointed coaches for the division one side for 2010 are Lucas Kelly and Lucas Fahey (Myself). we were extremely unlucky to lose the semi's last year to burnahm after beating them convincingly during both round robin matches, and this year are excited to welcome back a few old hands in Dabid Gower and Joe Sipa (Pending transfer) there will also be two teams this year, the first time in 4 or so years the club has managed to field two senior sides in one season, there is alot of positive changes in motion and we welcome them all as a step in the right direction for the club. We hope that you will join us as we attempt to revive a once loyal culture that was the Sydenham Swans...

First training Tuesday 19th Jan 6pm @ bradford park..

all senior players welcome..

Best wishes to everyone for the 2010 season.

Cheers.

Lucas F.

yeah not sure we were pretty gutted! oh well hopefully get a team that wont default this week, they defaulted against us last year as well maybe they should go to div.2? and bring timaru or someone like that up to our grade!

it sucks when you take something serious, get all prepared for saturday then your opposition doesint turn up! i guess we're paying for all the times sydenham defaulted in the past!

yeah we're having trouble with our junior club, but its getting there slowly.

as for our div.2, we'll get there unfortunalty not all our boys can afford to pay for the petrol to get to timaru and back.

imo i think they should come to chch if they wanna play in our competition, if this was a south island wide comp it would make sense. but its a crfl competition.

and ahhh didint your div.1 default?

give me a break, they have to travel every 2nd week, and your whining about going down there twice a year? Haven't you heard of car pooling?

Yeah it does "sucks when you take something serious, get all prepared for saturday then your opposition doesint turn up!"

calm down maaaate lol, i was mearly pointing out the fact that not everyone can afford a trip down to timaru just to play a game of footy for div.2 and yeah car pooling is an option but thats still money and for most of our guys in div.2 they just wanna play they dont wanna have to pay to do so (aside from fee's of course) they have familys and live on strict budgets do you get my drift?

no need to get bent out of shape buddy.

For years, people see Auckland Rugby League as only looking after their own back yard,

CRL does not need to become the ARL of the south island.

Communication is the key, talk with CRL for assistance.

Would be great to see 2 or 3 teams from Timaru, Ashburton and the West Coast in the future.....

But if the clubs here don't go down and support their league then it will fall over guaranteed.

They can't build the game if no one will go and play them, the players will just get pissed off and go to rugby or mow the lawns on Saturdays, as happened a few years ago.

If its home and away and two rounds would you only be expected to travel once to Timaru and once to Ashburton.

Has your club ever heard of Fund Raising?

Some good points WTF - playing in the CRFL competition would be more of a burden to Timaru and Ashburton than anyone else.... but they have put their hands up to play each week etc

If you know you are playing them from weeks out - then it isnt hard to throw $10 aside in the previous weeks until you go.

1 carload = 4 guys, $10 each - theres your gas money :) 5 cars in total - good wee road trip and a good bonding session i.e. mixing up the boys that dont usually "hang" together etc :) and if you are really pro-active, fund raise and make it a night away (not always possible but very good fun when it happens)

I think we take it for granted how small chch is, and how close the games can be. The country rugby scene in canterbury is quite big... but the players travel coz they love the game etc, they make it happen :) I grew up playing rugby in Auckland, trying to get from Mangere to Waitakere at 8am on a Sat morning... now theres a challenge!!! :)

p.s. not a go at the Mighty Swans at all - just in general - we all just wanna play etc... so hopefully no more defaults from anyone :)

yeah some good points made there trainer, i WISH we knew who we were playing a couple of weeks out unfortunately we don't find out until the tues/weds before we play.

and yes our club has heard of fundraising! hehe as i said before we will get there, there are lots of new developments in place this year so we will take them all on with open minds and hopefully find our feet again.

i am only speaking as a representative of the club in relation to the div.2 default as i take care of div.1 but i understand the team is in good hands.

anyway hornby this weekend should be a good one..

goodluck this weekend everyone.

i see there you say but its a crfl competition doesnt that ''c" in crfl stand for canterbury and im pretty sure timaru is stil part of canterbury so imo they have every right to play in this comp...

More stones!

are people too worried about putting there actual name on here incase they are confronted in real life?

unfortunately the div.2 side is having problems so im not 100% sure about whats happening.

how come hornets have two teams in the same div? that seems absurd you guys have a good enough calibur of players to come up dont you?

as for our jnr sides its no suprise they're struggling but its a work in progress, so we'll see what happens.

on a brighter note our side is top of the table having only conceeded 1 try in 3 games...i guess thats the silver lining!

according to recent news, they've pulled the div.2 team...they have no coach and our staff (trainer, asst coach manager strapper) don't have enough time or resources to run two teams.

some of the players from div.2 have disbanded others have stayed to try and gain a spot in div.1. we have still managed to retain 24 players for one team which is good but it would have been good to be able to field two teams.

either way its a huge improvement on last year with the calibur of player and the number of players growing by the week, just tonight we had 4 new players turn up.

I apologize on behalf of the club to all the div.2 teams looking forward to playing a swans side this year. we will do our best to try and get it together for next year.
